Artist's Comments

Sam and Lia, from my novel The Circle of Many Faces which, yikes, is getting close to done. Except I think I need two more books, but heck, if I can write one in a year I can write three in three, right?

The bristol I used for this wasn't really ideal for the background gradient. I need to get something that dries a little more slowly so I can really work with blending colors.

Media: Micron pens and Prismacolor markers on smooth bristol, white Prismacolor colored pencil, silver sharpie, and star stickers to mask the white stars in the background.

Honestly Naoko Takeuchi's (who did the manga of Sailormoon) art inspires me a lot. I like her backgrounds and techniques she uses a lot and I'm wanting to rip her off more and more lately. ;) I should pick up an airbrush and stuff and see what I can do.

Original sketch is in my scraps.

her skin look very nice and smooth =D

Thanks :D I'm glad it came out okay because before the ink dried I was worried about that in particular ^^;

*heh* and for a moment I thought you'd used ice blue, plae blue, pale lavender and mauve shadow copics. for the background. XD

I'd suggest you don't ink in the neckturner, or at least not that thickly; it seems rather overdone.

I like the shading on the skin and clothes. :)

XD I was kind of into those colors that day... I think they look nice against the shades that Sam and Lia usually wear. (They're light cerulean blue, cerulean blue, cloud blue, and violet mist [I think, I don't use my purples very often].)

I think you're right about the inking in the neckturner... although I always describe Lia with a rather harsh look to her neck/collarbone. There's probably a better way to show that, though, or I could use the brown pen like I did with the lips.

Thanks for your comment, very helpful as always. :D

Great shading on the skin! Your style has changed a bit but it looks really good! I love her expression; it really does look like she loves this guy.

Thank you! Yeah, earlier this year (well, and a bit last year, but this year's when I really started working on it) I decided I really wanted a more... I don't know, "mature" style? I wanted people's faces to be distinguishable. XD

This is such a happy picture for them, hehe. :) in the novel I'm working on (and it's sooo long and still not done, haha) Lia is a very preoccupied person and they don't have a lot of little moments of happiness, so I thought I would give them one in different media. :)
